wtf is dubstep?

this mix ain’t for the chin stroker or the purist…

this mix is for the hard out club kid who keeps hearin about this whole dubstep stuff and wonders..is this for me?..what the fuck is it?

i think this is a good starting point and if you love this mix, or even hate it, i hope it encourages you to explore the genre and find something in it you enjoy and can be a part of…

even if it is a little hard to dance to :)

RadFront

When people think of Australian djs and producers people mainly think of cities on the East Coast, mainly Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane. There is one place which in recent times is starting to pull their act together and are slowly showing their worth, this place is (r)Adelaide. In the recent inthemix top 50 djs in Australia they had two entrants being Loot & Plunder as well as Def Starr, both are renowned throughout Adelaide for their live shows, amazing mixtapes and production work.

Adelaide also have one of the craziest Thursday night parties in the country called 8 Bit Kidz. Last Thursday the people behind the weekly Suprise! party at Moulin flew in Chris Spiers who is a resident at this party, as well as One Love Saturdays in Adelaide and he absolutely blew me away. His set was perfect for a Thursday party, a great mixture of crunk, mash ups, cheese and electro, he had the small crowd working up a sweat. I heard a few of his mash ups and decided that I needed to have them for my sets, and he was kind enough to share them with me to share with you guys. Keep up to date with his myspace for all his dates and latest tracks. www.myspace.com/djchrisspiers

Deadmau5 – I Remember / Overnight Celeb (Chris Spiers Mash)

Act Yo Age – Love Bounce Tequila (Chris Spiers Mash)

Bonus round: On Deckhead 2.0 we haven’t heard much from fan favorite Benson, back on the old blog he would often supply us with some amazing remixes, including Dancin’ In the Moonlight, Ride Wit Me by Nelly and Everybody Get Up by 5ive to name a few. In recent times he has been busy working on official remixes for various artists and labels with his side project Brain Matters with Northie. Well here is a treat for you, he has remixed a track which was one of the main influences for me getting into electronic music!

Supermode – Tell Me Why (Benson Remix)

Those of you who are fans of graffiti art or graphic design will be glad to hear that Ben Frost is doing his first solo show in three years at the Boutwell Draper Gallery in Redfern. Opening night is Thursday the 26th of November with the exhibition running through till the 19th of December. The exhibition called ‘Lost in the Supermarket’, named after the famous Clash song, “remarks on the over stimulation, confusion and daily hypnosis we find ourselves entranced by, as we struggle to stand still on a buzzing psychedelic landscape of brands, identities and social demands.”  Ben Frost, not to be confused with Ben Frost the musician or Vince Frost the head honcho of Frost Design, operates at ‘Worlds End Studio’ in Surry Hills, and is a controversial, pop culture artist who both confronts and humours through his work. He was also recently featured on an episode of  The Apprentice Australia. This is going to be a kick ass event, and I will most definitely be heading down there to go check it out myself.

I really wonder what a Boobmonster would look like? Is it some kind of wonderful monster which will make all the guys in the world happy, or is it a trick to lure people in before the monster destroys them? Anyway this boobmonster has done a pretty good job at remixing Oasis’s anthem Wonderwall, he has done this with Sydney boy Taras.

Oasis – Wonderwall (Taras & Boobmonster Remix)

The Deckheads have started a new weekly residency playing on Thursday nights at The Rouge (AKA Moulin) in Kings Cross Sydney, I am pretty excited because next week Beni is playing and Def Starr have been flown in especially for the show from Radelaide. Here is their latest remix which is currently killing the blogosphere

Fences (Def Starr Version) – Phoenix

The Killers are amongst the few mainstream bands that I can listen to and will enjoy their stuff no matter what, this obsession first started when I heard their tracks Mr Brightside & Somebody Told Me, and today I have a remix of Somebody Told Me. It is by Sydney producer Redial, this remix is another win from the boy after a series of strong tracks from him. Its a harder track by Redial compared to his recent works, its going back to the heavy hitting basslines that people throughout the world fell in love with.

The Killers – Somebody Told Me (Redial Goes Oldschool Remix)

Last Friday marked the first Blog Party in Sydney with Mat Cant, Nick Thayer and The Hump Day Project helping us out and putting on an amazing show and night for the punters that came, as a result of this party things have been pretty quiet on the blog lately for this I apologize. Hopefully over the next few weeks we start getting back into the swing of things with regular posts, in the mean time here are two re worked tracks to keep you occupied. I am not the biggest fan of tracks that have already been remixed getting a touch up, but these two tracks are good examples of artists tweaking their familiar sound it to play during their sets.

Thomas Bangalter – Colossus (The Phantom’s Revenge Rework – FutureFlashs Live Re-Edit)

Felix Da Housecat – Elvi$ (2ManyDJs Edit – Kissy Klub Version)

I accidently bought an expensive advertising book thinking it was a graphic design book…which is slightly worrying. Nevertheless, the book features some quirky, smart and sophisticated adds. I thought I’d share this one with you, what with this blog being about music and all.

I think this is a spot on advertising campaign done for the NSW Police Force by DDB Sydney. I’ve actually thought about the affect of headphones on pedestrians and their awareness before I saw this add. I’ve even experienced walking down my street, listening to my iPod, not realising that there was a car behind me. I’ve also been in the other position, where I’ve been in a car driving ridiculously slow behind a girl with headphones, who clearly had no idea I was behind. I sort of wondered whether it was an issue or not, I guess it is with the number of teenagers dying as a result from listening to their iPods’ whilst crossing the road reaching an epidemic number.
