Those Beautiful Girls…..

December 28th, 2009 Jaxon No comments

A young man once said “They make me feel funny inside”. Now at the time i don’t know whether he was eating crackly popping candy or engaging in the conversation we were having, but he did sum up for us briefly how guys feel about girls. That’s the point, the make us feel. Normally we have the “emotional range of a teaspoon”, and ‘feelings’ comprise of a sexual nature, however now and again we realise we can actually sense and savour a moment, albeit provoked by the urge to have a quickie behind MacDs, but still…..you know.

Anywho here is one thing that turns us on……..a sexy female voice:

Major Lazer – Keep It Goin’ Louder (Feat. Nina Sky) (Diplo Remix) [M] [Y]

Major Lazer have had a year and a half, literally and proverbially. There originals, remixes (own and by others) and album has received a lot of support and enthusiasm, I definately backed them and still do. This remix by Diplo found it’s way into my Daily Mail a couple of months back and was chucked away with the rest of the r’n'b sounding shite, to recently resurface on the shuffle. I have a new found liking for this kind of music (i admit this isn’t quite Rhianna but its as close as i’m getting to it) and i totally blame my housemate who listens to Kanye, Tinchy and ‘all that shite!!’.

M83 – We Own The Sky (Udachi Remix) [M] [Y]

Udachi have been on the scene a while, a bit like this song to be honest. They come for the U S of A (NY i think) and make some deep, reverberating dub. I love this song and the original band has a most exsquisite girl lurking around in it.

Former Ghosts -The Bull And The Ram [M] [Y]

Listen to it in a nostalgic mood, absolutely amazing…….the album is available here and is for a long nostalgic mood.

Mustard Pimp – Cherry (Feat. Kali) (Mustard Pimp Dark Remix) [M] [Y] [Beatport]

Mustard Pimp are definately one to watch for 2010 as they have been making waves in late ‘09.  They killed with their Bad Man Horror Theme remix and have been going from strength to strength. Check and them & their giant ‘Hercules Mixtape’ here

Lots of Post Xmas Love

Tom

P.S. Laura Marling bringing out new album in 2010…..I LOVE HER VOICE

If you’ve got a spare pocket of time, I really recommend you experience this photo essay online called ‘Days With My Father’ by Phillip Toledano. One of the most beautifully crafted photographic narratives I’ve ever seen.

Lord KitchenerToday folks, the United Kingdom needs YOUR help! For the last four years Simon Cowell (international prat, wanker and worst hair ever – please feel free to suggest others that may beat him on that though) has won the UK’s christmas number one with an X Factor winner. Now we have a chance to beat him, not with a stick, but through pure hatred and union. I urge you to support this group and buy this song from wherever you choose.

If the speech hasn’t changed your mind, please let this help you, help me:

Rage Against The Machine – Killing In The Name (SebastiAn’s Late Night Laptop Edit) [M] [Y]

And now to resume normal service. Today I feel like talking about somewhat of a legend. This lad rose to the status for me in around ‘05, when i first head ‘Florida’. His name is Diplo (short for Diplodocus) and together with dub/house newcomer, Jayou, has released something rather nice.  The coming together of these two, has resulted in a very chilled, but very heavy mix. It’s definately going to warm my toes on those cold nights (it snowed here today).

Partysquad – The Murderer (Diplo & Jayou Remix) [M] [Y]

Oh Dear.....

And last but not least today we are only 6 short days away from Christmas, and what better way to get into the festive spirit than with some christmas music. This selection come from a variety of people, all brought nicely together by one man, DJ Yoda. Some of you may be familiar, some may not, some may love him, some may not, however all i know is I love this minimix done for Annie Mac a few years ago whether its Christmas or not. Give it a go and wrap those presents in a jolly mood……

Tena For Ladies

You know an artist has captured your imagination, and undoubtedly everyone elses when he reaches that highest of high, the pinnacle of all greatness and the accolade of all awards, he gets into your ‘Top 25 Most Played’ on iTunes. This guy hasn’t just done that, he’s smashed it beating the likes of Skream and Bloc Party to name a few, peaking at No. 3. His name is Jakwob (a mix between his name, Jacob, and the sound his music makes ‘wobble’) and he’s the biggest thing to come out of dubstep since that really good thing that came out some time ago (Rusko). The guy hails from the Midlands and although has been hitting it big for some months now, still impresses the masses. His first release, a remix of the equally talented (save that for another day) Ellie Goulding, took him to blogging stardom within a week, and is still blogged about today. However my favourite track, and the one that got him the gold star at No. 3 is this astounding remix of Alan Pownall, A Life Worth Living. I swear the first time i listened to it i nearly wet myself. Hopefully your bladder will hold out to, but for those of you that wear Tena for Ladies, please sit on the toilet for this one….

P.S. It may not happen, but as i’m new it probably will, some wanker will try and be cool and point this out. I KNOW he’s not ‘real’ dubstep, but for the moment, thats what i’m saying.

Bounce Crew DJs

bounce crew djs

Since the birth of DJing DJ teams have always been around, whether they be turntabilists such as Invisibl Skratch Piklz and Scratch Perverts, producers like Stanton Warriors and 2manydjs, or individually established DJs that have teamed up like S.O.S and Slyde. For me, having more than 1 DJ moves things from a DJ set to a performance and can make for exciting viewing (party boys, Loose Cannons are a perfect example of just entertaining a duo can be!) plus with the technology available now days, artists are using vinyl, CDs with Ableton, Serato and Traktor and a variety of controllers and keyboards to really push the boundries of DJing. Locally there are numerous acts who not only play great tunes but are also entertaining to watch including Bang Gang DJs, The Audiophiles, The Impossibles, Ro Sham Bo, Heroes Of The Party, Deckhead DJs, The Hump Day Project, Hoops, Act Yo Age, Surecut Kids, Hey Now DJs, Two Fresh, Brain Matters DJs, Loot & Plunder, Slap n Dash…whew, the list just goes on!

The most recent duo to emerge are the Bounce Crew DJs – having met years ago through playing at the same venues, Wollongong boys Mdoubleu and Repete decided to form a musical alliance after playing together at the TFM Beach Party earlier this year. The duo pushes a big party vibe with their sets cover a lot of ground including Fidget, Baltimore Club, Breaks, Hip Hop and Disco plus they also include their own cuts and edits. My personal music tastes are quite broad so I love the whole party mash-up vibe and the mix they recently sent me totally sums it up!

Pulp Jackin’

Canberra is the capital of Australia, most people outside of the country find this surprising as they usually associated Melbourne or Sydney with that honor. Rather than giving a detailed background about the history of our nations capital here are two different but very interesting versions of the background. Wikipedia and alternate

When it comes to djs and producers there are a few people from Canberra with some talent, the obvious one is the Aston Shuffle who have mixed cds for Ministry of Sound, been voted in the top 10 djs in the country and also toured the country with various festivals. Team Wing are another talented bunch of DJs/Producers who are slowly putting themselves on the map as well as Ben Colin who is signed to Bass Kleph’s Vacation records.

Today I present you with a very exciting new producer from Canberra who is fresh out of high school! His name is DJ Bricksta and he has sent me through his Debut EP as an exclusive for Deckhead entitled Pulp Jackin’. The EP includes the lead track which is inspired by the Jackin House style of music, and even takes some samples from Pulp Fiction.

Considering this is the first original work from Bricksta aswell as the fact that he is only out of high school really excites me, he has such an original bangin’ sound and doesn’t have a problem experimenting with various samples and movie quotes. On remix duties we have a fellow Canberra producer Ben Colin who is another exciting prospect, and is already signed to Bass Kleph’s Vacation Records plus a remix from Neosashi an unkown American up and comer.
