Elmo Is Dead

January 29th, 2010 Jaxon No comments

For someone who claims to be dead Chris Emerson aka Elmo Is Dead is doing a pretty good job of balancing production work, mixtape making and djing throughout Sydney. In the past year he has exploded onto the scene since parting way with his childhood friends Kas_Cid.

He managed to be the runner-up in the Soho DJ Search Competition and world famous judge Tommy Trash,  said this”Wow… I think you’ve just given fRew a little Dj Boner over here”. Was also a finalist for the ITM finalist ITM We Love Sounds Mixtape Competition and was the youngest performer at last years stereosnic music festival

Last year I featured some bootlegs last year on the old Deckhead and one of them peaked at No.1 on the hype machine music chart and Ajax played the track at We Love Sounds.

He has sent through two of his latest bootlegs today, I must apologise to all of you and him for holding them for so long, its just that they are pretty amazing to play out when I dj and wanted to keep these dj weapons for myself. Much like his dj sets, these two tracks are crowd pleasers. His ability to mash these together is pretty creative and is something that he mimics live.

Hopefully there will be more tracks to come over the next few months and maybe even a mixtape or two to showcase his ability.

Bootlegs:
Underground Theme (Elmo is Dead Bootleg) – Debonair Samir/Bart B More/Seductive

Make it Creamy (Elmo is Dead Bootleg) – Alvaro/Arcade/Federico Franchi

Spirits of Vengeance

Mark and Oscar are two pretty rad dudes from Sydney, they have been producing for the better part of two years and are slowly taking the world by storm. During the end of their high school years they decided that it would be a good idea to try and get into some music production starting out in their bedroom and ever since this fateful day they haven’t looked back. Already having an official Crookers coming out this year on the German Man Recording, and having their remixes supported by some of Sydney’s heavyweights including Wax Motif, Anna Lunoe, Kato, John Glover and Tenzin to name a few.

They follow up this dj work with a killer dj set which can be heard weekly at Candy’s apartment, they produce some of the most ridiculous mash ups and edits for their sets which keeps the crowd wanting more. A warning tho Mark often enjoys wearing red pants so don’t be too scared when you witness this.

They are definately in my ones to look out for this year with their harder electro style.

If your a Sydney resident you can catch the boys playing at Le Rouge tomorrow (28th) night supporting international freshmaker Tom Piper. Facebook event. Also peep their myspace for future gigs around the town and listen to all their tracks.

Bad Touch – Bloodhound Gang (Vengeance Remix) (320kbs)

Crazy – Gnarls Barkley (Vengeance Remix) (320kbs)

Lapdance – N.E.R.D (Vengeance Remix) (320kbs)

Song 2 – Blur (Vengeance Remix) (320kbs)

It’s Just Wob Wob Wob Nowadays….

Dubstep, it’s had a mainstream change, stemming from Skream’s excellent remix of La Roux. It’s amazing for some things: new artists, new genres, new nights, new festivals and even a new charity event, donating to Haiti and comprising entirely of dubstep & garage. However it has also had its downsides, and forgive me for sounding like a pretentious know-it-all twat (apparently we, the english, say this all the time), but people have jumped the band wagon a bit, resulting in knobheads filling my favourite night and not allowing me to get in, and rinsing tracks. The new ‘Wobble’ phenomenon has emerged rather rapidly, with apparently easy to make tracks, that most of the time are just far too much. However I’m not going to say I don’t like it all the time, I posted about Jakwob in my first post and as his name suggests he is primarily on the ‘wobble’ side of dubstep, and here I am to tell you some more.

THIS, is Jakwob’s new mixtape, the WOBCAST 3.0. Its good, I like it and maybe this jelly like music will grow on me.

Jakwob – Wobcast 3.0

I’ve been doing a bit a research this week into the main theme of deckheads, Australian music. The dub scene isn’t very well known there, mainly stemming from the UK, but I did find AC23.  I can’t find much information on him apart from that he’s from Melbourne and well that’s about it. Someone please inform me of this guys background…..I can’t even find a myspace. Anyway heres something to wet your whistle:

P.S. It’s my birthday, be nice and wish me a happy one

Fill My (D)Cups

January 19th, 2010 Jaxon 1 comment

Most people in the blogosphere would have amazing respect for Sydney Artist DCUP, for the past 12 months he has been coming up with some of the funkiest nudisco inspired originals and remixes. This has brought him the opportunity to tour ASIA, and some promoters in Singapore have got in a bit of trouble. Read the report below

A nightclub in Singapore is attracting attention for a marketing strategy that offers free drinks according to women’s bra sizes, the China Press reports.

The OverEasy nightclub introduced the event ‘Fill My Cups’ recently to promote events hosted by Australian DJ DCUP.

The promotion allows A-cup patrons one free drink, B-cups two, C-cups three, and D-cups can claim a free bottle of vodka.

“It was really a play on the guest DJ’s name. When we heard that it was DCUP, we decided to give the event an added spin,” said Ms Cheryl Ho, spokesman for The Lo & Behold Group, which runs OverEasy.

The stunt has drawn as much criticism as it has laughter, with some calling it distasteful, “I think the concept is funny but I would not degrade myself by being a part of it,” a 19-year-old women told The New Paper, a local publication.

Others believe the ‘booze for boobs’ gimmick is harmless, Student Lek Ning, 20, who considers herself a C-cup, said that she found the event hilarious, “After all, I’m rather proud of my assets,” she said.

President of the Association of Women for Action and Research (Aware) Dana Lam labeled the event “demeaning”. “I’d laugh at the silliness (of this event) if I didn’t know better. Women should think twice before popping themselves in there,” she said.

Ms Lam added that the “safety and dignity” of female customers have been disregarded, as they might be “subjecting themselves to molest and harassment”.

To ascertain bra size the promotion will allow for one male and one female judge to visually assess bra cup size, “They are not boob experts, and neither are they from a bra company. They are our personal friends who will simply guess-timate as to the women’s bra cup sizes,” said Ms Ho, “We don’t condone touch tests,” she said.

Don’t worry DCUP I still love you!
