Freak Show

Out of all the producers in Sydney there is one duo that i’ll always have a soft spot for, they are The Hump Day Project.

Over the years of running Deckhead we have seen them evolve from the bootleg kings of Sydney to something more serious and special. In the past year they have got the green light from various artists and label to produce official remixes, often resulting in them being released on beatport. To date they have produced some remixes for Sweat It Out with artists such as Oh Snapp! & Gameboy Gamegirl as well as an official remix for Dj Assault and a new one for the One Love label, amongst a whole bunch of others.

Their style has come in leaps in bounds since the early days, they still keep that same upbeat party style but their drops and samples are out of this world, and don’t you worry they are staying true to their roots of still making bootlegs and remixes for their sets.

In my opinion one of their best remixes to date is that of Denzal Park’s smash hit Filter Freak, they used a clever Rick James sample in the early part of the build up and then the same sample cleverly towards the end of the track. Unfortunately for the boys the record label was not able to get clearance for this sample and as a result the track will not be released :( , instead it is being used as promo to support the release on the whole. Still good publicity! Here is what Steve had to say

so we did this remix of Denzal Park’s “Filter Freaks” track which is killin it on the Aria club charts (three billion years at no.1 so far i think…)

anyways…we where cheeky and used a Rick James sample from “Super Freak” and the label (Neon) can’t get the damn thing cleared!

so we are throwing it out there for you all of you to play/share/blog to your hearts content!

the rmx has gotten some play on various radio stations which has created a bit of demand for it.

As an exclusive on Deckhead I have a 320KBPS mp3 of the song for you to listen to, dj with or dance to. Show the boys some love on facebook.

Go support the release on Beatport it is a cracker of a release with the legend that is DCUP on remix duties.

So there it is, if you are a fellow blogger and want to blog it yourself go for gold, just include the Beatport link in the post and we are good.

One of the original site’s favorite sons were The Hump Day Project, the fascination started when I would often see them playing around Sydney dying to get my hands on their bootlegs and remixes, until one day the opportunity to interview them came my way. Their tracks were an instant success on Deckhead and the interweb, with their remix of Waters Of Nazareth getting to number 1 on hypem, and everytime I blogged their tracks they would frequent the hypem popular pages. In the year that has followed their reputation has exploded in Australia with them regularly booking gigs country wide and slowly started releasing official remixes including for Oh Snap!

The thing that has dissapointed me about the relaunch is that we have not yet blogged anything by the boys, after some discussion we decided that this was not good enough and this post is how we are going to change that. Today on offer I have three of their latest remixes, they are actually official releases for three different record labels so the tracks are in low quality.

Here is what Steve Lind said about the tracks:

“I just wanted to share some tunes we’ve done that push the tempo but I think are still accessible and nothin to be afraid of. I guess in posting these I hope other dj’s and producers will break out of the 130bpm bubble and have fun with this crazy shit called dance music.”

All these tracks are 128kbps

Danny T – Chico (The Hump Day Project Remix)

Signal Drivers Feat. DJ Assault – Ass N Titties (The Hump Day Project Remix)

Tom Piper & Destroy Disco – My Sound (The Hump Day Project Remix)

Don’t forget to support the artists and record labels by purchasing the full quality tracks on Beatport and you can catch THDP djing live at the Blog Party on November 13 at Moulin Rouge. Facebook Event. Their sets are a mixture of awesome, at times they are Baltimore inspired, other times electro, hip-hop or even ‘Ghetto Inspired Funk’ and more recently they have added a touch of dubstep to each set.
